XStream size for an XStream Clean. The massive size and incredible performance means years of trouble-free filtration. It has an extra large capacity for dirt and debris and a quick-release, high-capacity air relief valve. But size isn't the only thing this filter's big on. The XStream Filtration makes daily operation and servicing more convenient than ever before.

The Hayward XStream 200 sq ft cartridge filter is ideal for above‑ground and smaller in‑ground pools, typically handling turnover for pools in the range of about 21,000 - 55,000 gallons (≈ 80,000 - 208,000 liters) depending on pump size and run time. The large 200 sq ft surface area gives it plenty of filtration capacity without frequent maintenance.
The “200 sq ft” refers to the total pleated surface area of the cartridge inside the filter tank. More surface area means the filter can trap more dirt, debris, and particles before it needs cleaning, resulting in longer filter cycles and less frequent maintenance compared with smaller cartridge filters or sand filters with less media.
Cartridge filters trap debris on the surface and between pleats of the element, capturing finer particles than a typical sand filter without backwashing. Cartridge filters: ✔ Capture smaller particles than sand filters (often down to around 10–15 microns), improving water clarity. ✔ Don’t require backwashing , you clean the cartridges by rinsing them. ✔ Are generally more efficient and use less water since you only rinse the cartridges, not backwash gallons of pool water. However, cartridge filters usually require more frequent cleaning of the filter elements than a sand filter and may need periodic cartridge replacement.
Frequency depends on pool use, debris load, and environment, but most pool owners clean their cartridges seasonally or whenever the pressure gauge indicates higher resistance (typical signs include slower flow or increased pressure). Unlike sand filters, there’s no backwashing, you simply remove the cartridge and clean
The XStream cartridge filter includes: A glass‑reinforced, non‑corrosive filter tank for long‑term durability. Easy‑Lok™ clamp ring for quick access to cartridges. A flush‑mounted pressure gauge so you know when cartridge cleaning is recommended. Quick‑release air relief valve to purge air from the system during start‑up or after cleaning. This makes daily operation and maintenance more convenient compared to older cartridge and sand designs.
